Best Budget Activities in Bangkok

Prepare for your next adventure to Bangkok, Thailand. Here are 8 affordable activities to add to your backpacking plans.

Best Budget Activities in Bangkok

Have you landed in Bangkok, finishing off your travels here or simply just wanting to explore this busy hustling and vibrant city. I’ve compromised a list of activities to help you plan your trip and include some must see attractions.

Take a Trip To Khao San Road

At night Khao san road becomes a street full of fun, noise, adventure and chaos – packed with bars, restaurants and local street food, there is plenty of entertainment to see. Drawing in large crowds, it is best to stay aware of your surroundings and ensure you’re being safe at all times.

Pay a Visit to Wat Traimit

Wat Traimit is a famous Buddhist temple located near Chinatown in Bangkok and houses the world’s largest solid gold Buddha statue. The temple also contains the Yaowarat Chinatown Heritage centre for those eager to learn about local heritage and culture. There is a small entry fee to pay on arrival, as well as many steps to access the temples interior.

Book a Boat Tour

There are many boat tours available in Bangkok that can be found on sites like getyourguide or across the streets of the city direct through local businesses. Taking you down the Chao Phraya River, through the city’s slow paced peaceful canals or to view the floating market, this is a perfect activity for a chilled back day in Bangkok.

Wat Arun

Wat Arun – the temple of dawn is especially beautiful during sunset all lit up or dazzling at night. I only saw this from across the river during the day but I would include this on my itinerary if I was to go back. The temple stands on the Western bank of the Chao Phraya River.

Pass by the Big Buddha

This is a gold statue of a Buddha, tallest in Bangkok located at Wat Paknam Phasi Charoen and can also be seen on a longtail boat if you were to embark on a boat tour as mentioned above. The temples alongside the Buddha are also a beautiful, vibrant and meaningful sight to see.

Chill at a Rooftop Bar

Note: I did not get the chance to visit a rooftop bar so this is just a pretty view I took while having lunch.

Looking for a place to chill out and have a drink? Why not try a rooftop bar where alongside this you can take in beautiful panoramic views of the bustling city. There are many rooftop bars in Bangkok – two main examples are Tichuca Rooftop Bar and Sky Bar at Lebua. Tichuca has a stunning LED structure, almost like a tree as a centrepiece, creating a tropical, chill and party vibe. Whereas Sky Bar is an iconic spot that can be seen in The Hangover Part 2 film.

Stroll in Chinatown

During the evening, Chinatown’s night market pops with its vibrant and colourful lights and signage, creating a busy and energetic home to multiple shops, cuisines and local street food.

Walk and chill by pool

Travelling from place to place can be tiring at times so sometimes its nice to just chill by a pool, soak in some sun, read a book or any other relaxing activity of choice. There are so many choices of wear to stay in Bangkok whether that’s a fancy hotel or a social hostel, many including a pool or lounging area. Check out hostelworld or booking.com to compare some options – I stayed in Bed Station Hostel which I found to be friendly, clean and social with dorms including a curtain and air conditioning, would definitely choose again!
